About me

Red de Turismo Imbakucha is a network of community tourism projects from the surroundings of Otavalo that formed in order to spread the word amongst visitors to Otavalo about the touristic services in our communities. Imbakucha is the name for Lake San Pablo in the local Kichwa language, which is still widely spoken in this area and an integral part of indigenous culture. At the moment, some 50 families from six communities participate in the network. We meet regularly to exchange experiences and discuss how to establish forms of tourism that are really sustainable without damaging impacts to our environment and customs.
