About me
I am passionate about conservation and its use to promote community-based eco-tourism, to encourage rural people to conserve their natural environment and preserve their cultural heritage.
And I encourage people through my writing as a freelance writer, to visit Ghana's many community-based eco-tourism destinations!
And as a farmer from a farming family that has farmed in parts of Ghana's Eastern Region since the 1900's from the colonial era, I am acutely aware that breaking the cycle of poverty in rural Africa, is vital at time of global climate change.
The wealth creation opportunities offered by community-based eco-tourism in the rural areas, is gradually easing the pressure on our rain forests - as alternative sources of income open up in the CBE industry, for the rural youth.
And today, in many CBE destinations, young people have seized the opportunity to become micro-entrepreneurs engaging in businesses such as: renting out mountain bikes to tourists; offering tourists river trips in traditional canoes; operators of restaurants serving Ghanaian cuisine; farmers supplying fresh produce to restaurants, guest houses and hotels; etc. etc.
It has meant that those young people, who before such opportunities opened up in the CBE tourism industry, would have become pawns in the networks of the criminal syndicates which are felling trees illegally and destroying the remainder of Ghana's rain forests, now shun such activities, and rather seek to protect the forests and the wildlife that are part of the ecosystem that the attracts tourists - whose holiday experiences offer their micro-enterprises, opportunities!
Come and visit us - and help us help preserve Ghana's biodiversity, together. We will offer you opportunities to neutralise your holiday carbon footprint by planting tree seedlings, or supporting solar cooker projects; solar mobile phone-charging battery projects; and LED lighting projects.
They are all projects we are undertaking to help in the fight against global climate change - and above all to help create wealth, in rural Ghana!
